Hours Run By a Generator Calculation

11/13/2010 9:16 PM

Hello,

I have a serious analysis in my hands to do. A report was submitted to me where I need to calculate the number of hours run weekly by a generator from the KW/h reading from the Generator. How possible is this?

Help convert KVA to KWhr.

KWhr = KVA x cos φ x hr. (cos φ is also called "power factor" or "PF").

Or, more accurately, KWhr = ∫0hr KVAt cos φt dt. (Because KVA and cos φ can vary over time.)

On the contrary, it is virtually impossible to do precisely what you are saying.

However, maybe the generator has an hour meter on it? If so, read it at the beginning and end of the week of interest, and subtract. Or if a plant log is kept, examine the times when the generator was started/stopped.

BTW, there is no such meaningful unit as KW/h.

Sorry, I assumed the hour meter information would be included in the "report".

My turn to be sorry--I get it now!
