11/22/2010 12:05 AM

Hi,

i am working in a combined cycle power plant,Its in commisioning phase. Here different sized cables of following specs i.e; 4 and 3 Core Stranded Cables Cu/XLPE/SWA/PVC-LSF: 600-1000V IEC-502,3 Core Stranded MV - Cables
Cu/XLPE/SWA/PVC-LSF: 6.35/11KV IEC-502,1 Core Stranded Cables Cu/XLPE/PVC-LSF: 600-1000V IEC-502 have been used for different equipments.Firstly these were laid in cable trenches. In rainy season cable trenches became full of water so to avoid water accumulation EPC contractor has filled the trenches with sand. Please

  • explain is it recommended/safe practice to fill the cable trenches with sand by any ieee/iec/ansi standard.also specify the standard
  • Please elaborate the effects (good/bad) on cable insulation, life and integrity with some supporting ieee/iec/ansi standard

Well, British Standard 7671 has a lot to say on cable sizing, loading and installation techniques...

Dear Sir,

Thanks for reply

  • Can it British Standard 7671 be provided by you or could you please refer some site to get it free?
  • It will be helpful for me if you could please comment against my concerns with arguments because it will take time to read the standard thoroughly

In an ideal world, standards need to be taken into account before work starts. That's called Engineering!

Standards take time and effort to produce and publish. The price is there to value that effort.
