Impact Drive

11/28/2010 3:35 AM

Hallo,

How does the impact mechanism works?

Mechanically speaking.

It's the element of surprise.

If you want an answer then you should formulate the question the RIGHT way: what impact ? We are NOT wizards to know what you think. Give details and then you get a correct answer.

I noticed the "off-topic" remark which comes most probably from the OP. I think this appreciation is more valid for the way he presented his question.

For the formulated question my answer was 100% valid. The most known way to generate an impact is to use a "hammer" and stroke an "anvil". What is the hammer and what is the anvil I let it be free choice of the OP.

Hello Avisar.

This impact mechanism... Like an impact tool for installing bolted connections? What are you really doing, a more complete explanation is required.

Member nick name can help quite a bit, but I think he may be tiring of the 20 questions game. I will go to his #1, and vote GA, as it is certainly not an OT comment with the information in your original post.

If my guess of impact tool is correct, this article in Wikipedia has a good discussion regarding the hammer mechanisms common to those tools. If my guess is incorrect, I guess we need more information from you.

Thank you Doorman for the compliment, in fact I not only know the systems but even made a complete computer dynamic simulation in order to predict the results when used. It is a very interesting tool first patented for Ingersoll Rand.

You are perfectly right: I am TOTALLY fed up with questions which have no real meaning. I consider ( I may be right or wrong ) that asking questions, as many do, is a lack of respect for the consulted person. A question has to be understandable !

How can I know that he means an torquing impact tool ? Even if I assumed what he wanted I answered the way I did to underline the superficiality.

I had notice that you and Codemaster both exercised great restraint in your responses, a sign of a true CR4 Guru. I, on the other hand, spilled the beans.

Our OP has another thread where he tells us he is a student. During the thread, he is an engaged member of the discussion (which is nice to see. We have seen many threads where the question is posted, and we never hear from the OP again.) It takes Avisar a while to completely formulate the question in that thread. Hopefully, a recognition will come about that a complete, well considered and worded question will get a full and helpful response. This will be true in later life as well, so if his skills of communication can be sharpened at CR4 as well, all the better for him.

tnx Doorman for you answer, i mark it as GA.

English is not my native language and I appreciate the patient and your answers.

I was told that what I meant was called impact drive.

Impact wrench was what I was asking for.

I need to open a screw and I need to power it with electricity (12V, 10A top), what is better, a high rate of impacts with less force or a low rate but with higher force?

What the benefit of each method and what the mechanism for them?
