Bus Bar Rating and Isolation Transformer

12/03/2010 5:04 AM

Hello,

I just need to ask 2 questions please:

1- How is a distribution board (DB) busbar rating sized (in Amps)? Is it always equal to the rating of the DB's main breaker?

2- When are isolation transformers in need to be located on the mains of UPS? Is the rating of UPS a major factor? If so, can you give me please the NEC reference?

Thank you a lot!

1. Distribution board busbar rating sized in Amps. It is not always equal to the rating of the DBs main breaker.

2. Together with the installation of UPS. Rating of UPS is not a major factor. sorry, i dont know the NEC reference. We follow our own local standards.

1. Sure the rating is sized in Amps. But how to calculate the exact rating if it's not equal to the DB's main breaker?

2. What are the major causes that affect the choice of installing or not an isolation transformer on the mains of the UPS?

Thank you.
