240v / 110v converter for 90-110v bodine motors

12/06/2010 1:30 PM

uk 240 / usa 110 converter advice needed

application is for control of bodine motors 90v - 110v dc amperage of the motors between 0.89a - 1.3a

i can go 1 or 2 ways with this either by a 240v/110v converter rated at 200 watts if my calculation is correct or head towards a rated transformer 240v/110v 2a

volts x amps = watts

further to this converter/converted power supply would be

cr4 forum reference

using kbelectronics speed controller rated 4amps or

a 110v bridge rectifier with capacitor before the input of the motor with speed control as i have both options that can be used

i understand that the amperage can spike so im also considering placeing a resister to protect the motor from the amperage spikes at start up/low speeds

would this be enough to power the motor or am i under powered considerably

this is for a few projects i am building at the moment

thankyou for any help offered

The simplest way to control the speed of your bodine motor is to use small variac(220V-3A) followed by full bridge rectifier.

I believe you are using the bodine motor to perform coil winding !
