Sorry to say this, but you need to find another job if you have no experience whatsoever designing sheet metal components....don't waste the company's funds & time trying to do so. You have really no business being in that position. Also, some poor smhuck trying to fabricate a sheet metal part that you may design (ill-designed) may fail and result in injuring, maiming or even killing that person. You will be legally held responsible for any ill-consequences that result from your actions.

Good luck in the new job hunt!

Every body started some time from zero some had more chance than other. I know that in some countries if you are a technician you are asked to do any kind of job even totally out of your basic profession. I can understand that for making a living you could have to accept such situations.

What do you know ? What have you done before ? If we know that we can be more helpful.

You can go several ways but I think you should start by using one or more research engines and ask for the subject you are now interested in "sheet metal design". There are some basic rules you can learn quite rapidly but you MUST be very careful.

To give you a qualitative answer, it depends on the properties of the metal sheet you want to deform. Very important is the maximal specific deformation and the ratio between Rm and Re. The higher the more chances you have to deform without generating cracks.

Just in case the OP decides to stay in that position I pray that the company he works for assigns a well experienced "Mentor" to help tutor the poor guy for a period of time to help him do things correctly and safely!
