QA&QC - Welder Qualifications

If a welder is qualified in GTAW process welding Carbon steel, can he weld S.S material.

Maybe....but I think you have to test him/her separately on SS vs CS, because the alloys differ too much to assume that proficiency with one ensures proficiency with the other.

Tig welding SS is very similar to carbon steel. Slight adjustments are needed as there is a greater tendency for the heat to stay in one place with SS, but this typically facillitates more control, rather than being something requiring practice for proficiency Welders need to be aware of the hazards present in fumes working with high Cr alloys. Some prefer darker shade in their hoods due to more light reflected of stainless workpieces.[pk v

For GTAW the F-number of the filler material change, and it is a essential variable for welders qualification. Then you need to qualified the welder for P8 in GTAW. Please review ASME IX tables 432 and 433.
