A "ton of refrigeration" is the amount of cooling effect required to turn one ton (2000 lb) of liquid water to ice at 32°F (0°C) within 24 hours; it equates to 12,075 Btu/h (if I recall correctly), but everybody rounds this off to 12,000 Btu/h. One watt ≈ 3.41 Btu/h, so you can convert to other systems of units.
