3" Pressure Reducing Valve Capable for Use with Saltwater

12/19/2010 4:17 PM

I need an valve that can reduce water pressure from 12 bar to 5 bar. This valve must be resistance against saltwater.

Anybody that can help me with brand name and type of valve?

Common terms are "pressure reducing valve" or "pressure regulator." If you search these phrases, you can probably find some manufacturers to phone up. Such a valve might not be a common catalog item, so calling around may be necessary.

Samson are my personal favorites. Duplex 2507 valve body will prevent chloride corrosion, suggest internals also, although lesser grade likely OK (due to high velocity).

These valves are fully controlled to flow or pressure input using a PLC.

Also Flowserve has this valve ...

Flowserve is excellent company in all things sea water desalination - corrosion should not be an issue.

Alternatively if you simply need static / constant pressure drop, without automated control, then I suggest Tyco (excellent company in all things valves).

Good luck. Suggest consulting with the valve manufacturers, with your requirements - ie pressure loss at specific flowarate. Cv calculations aren't the easiest calculations.

To make a correct choise, you need to know a little more. You want ro reduce salt water pressure, in which quantaties ? and at what tempertures ? Is this salt water ordinary sea water or something else ?, are there solid particals in the water or is the salt copletely desolved ?

If you made your choise in brand, the manufacterer should ask you these questions.

And there a alot more manufacterers as mentioned above.

Yep. It would be an easy one for the local valves distributor to solve over the telephone.

Does anyone use trade directories any more or is it all a bit interwobbly now (rhetorical question)?

Most plastics have <...resistance against seawater...>.
