buy a dvd or a blue-ray then set it on top. Connect in place of the vcd. That how to change a vcd to a dvd. :p

To convert vcd to dvd would required optics, laser, electronics, embedded software changed, more electronics added for different signals etc. etc. etc....

Though money, time, effort, and the fact it would be a one off design, best just to buy something new and enjoy and be happy.

GA for the best commonsense answer I have seen here up to now.

DVD players are simply SO cheap nowadays it is not worth the effort, even if you could find the parts, to convert, with no guarantee that it would ever work.....

Surprisingly enough, this same/similar question comes up from time to time on CR4, usually from people who I believe know little about electronics, mechatronics or anything else to do with the problem(s)......

Search the internet for "tv converter box." You will see there are different "converters" for different jobs:

*The newest and most widely offered one is for converting the digital tv signals from a tv antenna, into analog signals for an "old style" tv.

*The next type converts analog or "old style" signals, which are commonly found on video cassette tapes, into digital signals, so that you can record them on DVDs. In order to do this, you have to know what FORMAT the analog tapes are recorded in. Here are the most common ones:

1.) NTSC , commonly used in the US.

2.) PAL, commonly used in Europe.

3.) SECAM, ????

Therefore, if your tapes were made for the US market, you'd want a converter for NTSC to Digital. There are converters which can convert all three formats, and perhaps even some other formats not mentioned. But they tend to be more expensive.

Also, you can purchase the converter as a stand-alone, or as a program within a dvd recorder. Each has its advantages / disadvantages.

Good luck on your conversions!

You have VCD....ok

Erase C, you are left with V D

and write D before V D..........

You would get D V D...........

Use Permanent Marker to do so.....

When you figure out how to convert your VCD to DVD let us know. You might be able to help me convert an old Volkswagen Bug into a Mac truck. The challenges are about the same.
