MEG Distilation

we are using Mono Ethylene glycol for secondary media in our Brine chiling system which gets diluted with water due to multi utility usage in equipments.

i want to destil it in falling film evaperator (idael with us) but not sure about compatibility of Graphite or its binder with MEG.

i afraid of damging FFE . can some body help me inthis regard.

Hello jrbuwa,

What is the pressure range of the FFE (vacuum/partial pressure down to?)?

What is the composition of the brine?

What is the approximate percentage of MEG in the brine when you are ready to feed to the FFE?

In a simple evaporation process, you will likely get codistillation of the MEG in any water you condense from the brine/MEG mix. You will need to optimize the FFE pressure and feed temperature to yield the least amount of MEG in the water fraction. This information can be obtained empirically (experimentation).

I could not find any data on water/ethylene glycol as a binary system in the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, so I cannot give you a place to start.

As far as the compatibility of the graphite or it's binder with the MEG/brine, I would say that it is compatible. The only thing I would worry about is evaporating so much liquid, that the brine salts would come out of solution and physically erode the wipers.

MEG % in brine is 23 % ,

FFE is designed for 3 kg/cm2 and Full vacuum actualy is designed for HCL +Amine.

i will required MEG % @ 70%. that much water to distiled.
