FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS! MINING!

01/05/2011 4:59 PM

So I am going through some fire alarm systems and need some answers to some questions I cannot figure out and before I go to my boss.

1) What is a pre action solenoid? It is part of a fire suppression system and I believe it has something to do with the abort portion but may be wrong.

2) Came across an isolation module for a fire addressable system and can't seem to get a straight answer at the moment.

3) Came across a sprinkler suppressed valve. I don't believe this is a flow sensor but some kind of control.

Thanks in advance from Thunder Bay.

Probably the best advise to you is to go to your boss as planned.

1. Search and read about Pre action system. This is a combination of detectors and sprinkler controlled by fire alarm panel and a compressor pump.

2.Isolation modules normally installed one in every 20nos(depends on each system manufacturer data) of detectors in a addressable ring loop system. This module will isolate only 20nos of detectors in that group in case of any short/fault in the loop. So other detectors in the loop will not be affected.

3. Search and read fire suppression system as like FM 200. you will get the information.

Your Senior would be in a position to provide you Operation and Maintenance manuals as well as as-built drawings. Study those for a clear grasp of subject.
