Eh?

If the generator were not connected to anything, then the low voltage and requency matters not a jot.

The effect on what piece of equipment?

Low speed in the generator is the cause of low frequency. To what is it connected that could affect the system voltage as a result of the low frequency?

generator frequency is proportional to your RPM..that is, prime movers rpm - reduction gear - generator rpm (this is for Turbo Gen set-up) or for directly coupled - prime mover rpm = generator rpm... basically does not affect your generator...but as PW slack said..it is your load that is affected... voltage-frequency ratio comes in...

  1. If the field strength is fixed, then voltage is proportional to frequency (at no-load).
  2. But most generators have an automatic voltage regulator, which changes field strength to compensate for both frequency and load effects on voltage.
  3. For example, alternator in a motor car keeps steady (battery) voltage from idle to maximum speed, big public power station generator is rated for nameplate output power with only a few percent variation of voltage and/or frequency.
