Cairo Basic Wind Speed

01/10/2011 6:22 AM

I am designing a vertical cylindrical fiberglass tank to be located in Cairo, Egypt. I wish to factor in the wind loading into my design calculations but I am finding it hard to find a document that will tell me such information. In the UK we use a map of Basic Wind speeds which is produced in the British Standard, BS 6399-2:1997. Is there a similar document available on the Basic Wind Speed in Egypt.

Regards

Niall

The effect of wind is allowed for by assuming that the wind is blowing with a velocity of 80.45 km per hour, hence it is equivalent to a pressure of 33.7 kg per square meter of the projected surface (Factor of safety is always taken as 2).

See the attached file for Cairo_Meteorological_Data, which were used in design of petroleum and petrochemical equipments located at oil refinery at Cairo.
