Fishing Camp Heater Debate

Fishing Camp Heater.

2 set ups in a fishing camp

  • barrels are identical
  • heat source and flame out put is identical
  • 8" stove pipe and outside roof vent identical
  • double barrel has 4' of 8" dia. stove pipe to the ceiling
  • single barrel has 7' of 8" dia. stove pipe to the ceiling ( not shown to scale in pix)

Question was posed here at the shop.

I said the double barrel set up will be warmer in the enclosed camp as there is MORE metal surface to heat up and radiate heat in the room.

Most likely that would be correct. Other things being equal, the stack temperature will be cooler on the taller heater. This can be checked with a suitable thermometer or several other types of instrument.

I agree with you and Tornado.

A double barrel setup will transfer more heat to your tent. I seldom see this in hunting camps because it is cumbersome.
