I have a 2005 Kia Sportage Ex 2.7l 6 Cyclinder. Toward the end of October 2010. The car would stall would coming to a stop or slowing down at a traffic light. Before it would stall the idle would jump around between 5 and 10 RPMs. Here are steps that have been taken up to this point:
1)My mechanic hooked it up to the computer and the code was a faulty Mass Air Flow sensor. So we replaced it. About two days later, It stalled again, so we cleaned the throttle body. Still the stalling problem continued. Please note the car always starts right back up again and the engine light has never been on. It road fine for about a week before the stalling began again.
2) In Deember 2010, took the car to Kia. They put it on the computer and it showed a code for a new O2 sensor. Before the changed it. they gave the car a computer software upgrade. Once the upgrade was done the code for the O2 sensor was gone.
The technician was hopeful that this upgrade would solve the porblem. That night about 6 hours later stalled again.
Took it back the next day to Kia and they did the Throttle body serrvice that was due on the car. The car did seem to ride smoother but it still stalled sometimes 4 or 5 times in a two block distance.
As of now January 13th, no codes show on the computer. The Kia guys were good to me because they could have replaced the O2 sensor and TPS sensor and charged me but they did not feel this is the problem. But as of now, myself and Kia are not sure what the problem is. The car has 55K on it. It's a been a great car. We are now at the probing stage with the car. My next step is to change the wires and the spark plugs because just before it goes through the stalling routine there seems to be a surge and from what I have read for the last month on the internet this can be related to the wires or the plugs. Anyone have any ideas? it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance
