rated surge voltage for testing power cables (LV,MV)

What are the actual voltages these cables are due to carry?

Rated voltages for low voltage = 1000/600 v and the medium voltage cables are 6.6 and 11 KV rated.

You know that the surge energy proportional to the test voltage and to get high acoustic effect I have to raise the test voltage to the cable limit (in case of high noise)

As said before, you need to check the standard specifications relevant to your country.

The test voltage depends on several things like the insulation thickness...

for low voltage 400 volt phase to phase and for M.V 6.6 and 11KV phase to phase

If you are a manufacturer the minimum requirements will be defined in national power cable standards that are applicable to your location. If you are a user, refer to the same standards and the manufacturer's literature and specifications.

Surge voltage( THUMPING ) is injected in faulty cables to PIN POINT cable fault in underground cables. Generally maximum surge voltage injected from a SURGE GENERATOR is five times of the rated voltage of the cables. However, this voltage is depending on various factors like age of the cable, condition of earthing of armours, no. of joints, age of the joints, condition of end terminations,depth of laying,etc.
