What Does C.O.G. Stand for?

01/20/2011 2:51 AM

Dimensions, weight etc. shall be given for all components. A weight and C.O.G. estimate is to be enclosed with the bid.

In this sentence, what does the acronym C.O.G. stand for?

Thanks for your favor.

It does make sense.

Thanks a million!

In it's context in the sentence "A weight and C.O.G. estimate is to be enclosed with the bid." C.O.G.would mean Cost of Goods.

Then again could be Crazy Old Goat!!!

I'd think that the cost of goods would not be an estimate, it should be known down to the penny.

Determining the center of gravity of an object is much more difficult and, for bidding purposes, and estimate probably would suffice.

I'll go with center of gravity.

Though I can see point as others has pointed out at it being center of gravity as for shipping purpose. Any cost of goods given at the time of the bid would be a estimate as by the time the contract was signed those prices would likely have changed.

I can't buy that.

When someone gives me a bid, they state on the bid the period of time the bid is valid. Usually 30, 60 or 90 days. No price changes are allowed until the effective date has passed.

I would never accept a bid with "prices subject to change".

On large jobs that may take years there are clauses for price fluctuations.

If it's an RFQ - it Cost of Goods - acquisition cost

They are asking for weights to determine freight-adders

Why would anyone give a cost of goods with a bid? The bid itself is already the cost to the buyer, and there is no need to disclose the cost to the seller.

This discussion has surpassed my level of competence.

Pilots worry about "weight and balance" when loading aircraft. That was where I was going.

Bye.

On ships, it is one duty of the first mate to be responsible for center-of-gravity calculations. If you have 400 containers on board, a spreadsheet helps.

A crab catcher/processor I once worked on could easily take a 100,000-gallon diesel delivery from the Chevron dock in Dutch Harbor, AK. If we wanted to, we could take the temperature of the fuel and ask for a correction of the gallonage. But in a cold climate like that, any such error would be in our favor, so we kept mum. Different story in tropical climates!

"Different story in tropical climates!"

And in Arizona, where the politicians allowed the oil companies to compensate for cold weather but not hot.

Guess who gets screwed all summer long every year.

C.O.G. stand for Center of Gravity .

maybe related to

Researching on the Safety Range of COG (Center of Gravity) Deviation of Goods .

or to calculate the torque of forklift or something else .
