Electrical code

01/25/2011 10:56 AM

Hi! This is candoitall. However, my Ugly's manual is misplaced. Therefore, I pose this question to my electrical engineers friends: What is the maximum number of conductors allowed in a 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/8 metal junction box according to Ugly's reference? My Ugly's says for a 4-11/16" sq x 2-1/8" box (42 cu. in.) the max conductors is 16 - #10, 18 - #12, or 21 - #14. Other conductor sizes please ask.

A British Telecom telephone line installer could get quite a rat's nest inside there before putting the lid on....

candoitall; the numbers quoted you were for wires passing through, uncut, a cut & spliced wire is counted as 2 wires. perry
