Tank Hydrostatic Test

For new constructed water storage tank, could I complete the tank internal surface painting before proceed the hydrostatic test?

It would make more sense to paint it before testing it, so that:

  • The tank is dry when the paint is applied, and
  • The paint may fill any minor leaks and stop them.

Agreed, but the fill at minor leak is temporary and may fail in long run during operation. If there any code & standard for reference?

Exactly. paint may fill small defects/cracks, which may not leak during fill test but will reqire repair later on. Painting shall be done after hydro test only.

I have checked API 650, the code did not mention the painting work to be done before or after the hydrostatic test.
