Wireless Signal Booster

01/31/2011 8:04 AM

Hi there. Can anybody give some advise on how to improve internet signal in a certain location. I am using wireless connection on my internet through local area network, and there is no signal inside my house. i need to go outside the street to get a connection or signal. Even the cellphones have a limited signal in my house. There some trees around my house.

Where is the internet signal originating from? Meaning, do you have a wireless router/access point in your home? Or are you trying to "borrow" internet service from outside your home?

We would need to know this to be able to provide a meaningful answer.

it is a broadbond connection where the connection is wireless and need to buy a load like cellphone to activate the connection. There is a usb like adapter / receiver being used to connect or receive the signal.

Try putting your receiver in a large pot. This works in some situations.

For the internet here we started with a receiver that rested in the window, had little lights to show how much signal was available. We ended up with an antenna box mounted up on the house, that works good enough, cost about a hundred bucks. The internet provider installed it for free, and if I move I can take it with me. I would have to have it installed professionally because I don't have a signal strength meter.

Usual problem with wireless internet in remote locations as i presume to be your case. One way to solve it is to try to obtain more 'rf gain' or 'directivity' meaning you must increase the 'effective area' for rf energy and realise the direction of the source. You have not specified your 'receiver' type, is it a usb 3g stick, is it a somewhat bulkier wireless router, or what ?

A cheap and quick way to get over it is to use a small sat-dish and in place of the lnb put your internet 'receiver' or rather 'transceiver' and orient it to the direction of the cell base station and trim it for max signal. You will be surprised to what you will get. Be very carefull to the correct position of the focal point, else it will not work. Of course you have the bulk of the sat antenna. Another solution is to use a 3g usb stick, lengthen the cable to 15-20 meters, stick it to the focal point of the sat dish very carefully, make it watertight for humidity ingression and put the sat dish wherever convinient (excluding the obvious...).

Problem finished. Good work.

on your second option i heard that when the cable is extend and connect the 3g usb stick there will a signal loss. anyways, i been trying also to find a long cable but the longest i see is 3 meter. Thanks, i will keep on searching for a longer cable. Otherwise i will buy the signal booster when available.
