Residual Current

what is residual current in the case of rccb ? some one can help me?

In e.g. a single-phase supply, the current in the line conductor should be equal (in magnitude) to the return current in the neutral. Any imbalance means that current is "getting away" - via leakage to earth. The difference between L and N currents is known as the residual current.
