MCB for DC 28 volts

02/02/2011 5:50 AM

Hi ,

Can some one guide me as to is the normal MCB /MCCB rated for 400V or 230 V 50 HZ rating usable for DC 28 Volts ,or are there special MCB for that purpose?

An MCB rated for 400V AC or 240V AC can definitely be used for 28V DC.

Most switching devices have both AC and DC ratings, but they are different because it's harder to open a DC circuit, so DC voltage ratings are often less than AC voltages. That said, 28VDC is very low, I don't know of any MCBs tht wouldn't be able to handle that, but many of them stop at 60VDC even if they are rated for 400VAC. Just double check to make sure your's isn't rated for 24VDC max!

It will depend on the manufacturer.

The GE MCBs that we use here are mostly rated for dc, minimum voltage 12Vdc, maximum voltage per pole 48Vdc.

The best bet is to check the datasheet for the MCBs in question.
