Stent Spray Coating

02/03/2011 7:24 AM

I want to find a supplier that can spray coat a stent with a drug and monomer system. We will supply to drug/monomer. I am looking for someone that will do some initial samples ("quick and dirty"...well maybe not dirty!). I am thinking about some kind of ultrasonic spraying system but I am open to suggestions. The goal is to apply the drug/monomer in multiple very thin layers. Ideally the supplier should be in Europe. Would also consider a US supplier. Thanks in advance. Trench

Why not just grip it with forceps, dip it into a container of drug/monomer, tilt and roll for even coating, and shake off the excess?

I think you will have to define, " drug/monomer in multiple very thin layers".

How thin, how many, etc.

Each layer should be one micron or less.

I don't think you can "spray" a one micron coating.

You have two major obsticles to overcome.

1. Thickness, in general. (As in too think)

2. More importantly, uniform coverage between the inner and outer surfaces of the stent.

Though I have no direct experience, vapor/vacuum deposition seems to be a better approach.

Maybe someone with more current coating experience can help you.

Thank you Milo. I hope it is of some use to our new member Trench.

We certainly do live in a time of wonderous advances, this coating technique just an example of that.

Hi Trench,

We are very experienced with coating especially for coronary and peripheral stents based on SS, Cobalt-Chromium, Nitinol and other newer alloys and size ranges are typical of the industry. if you are looking for the stent coating technology, we could provide as much as little as you need.

Thanking you,

Haresh
