Windfarm Power Systems Model

02/03/2011 6:19 PM

Hello everyone, I am new here and I really really need someone's help. I am studying the operational issues that could arise when connecting a windfarm to the grid. I have drawn a circuit model and it is the one I will use for the study. I am stuck with the circuit analysis. I need to derive the state space equations in order to get the system matrix from which I can study the stability by finding the eigenvalues. Once I have derived the equations I can do it myself using MATLAB but I need someone to help me with the equations PLEASE. The voltage source on the left hand side represents an infinite bus at 33 kV and 50 Hz. I am only interested in what happens on the right hand side ie distribution level. I need the voltages across the resistors to be the outputs and voltages across the capacitors and currents across inductors to be state variables. I only need the equations i can derive the matrices. Reply as soon as possible. I can't figure out how to attach the circuit. Please reply to either tell me how or to send via e-mail. thanks a lot

Would it be OK with you if I copied this:" I need to derive the state space equations in order to get the system matrix from which I can study the stability by finding the eigenvalues"?

And use it myself?

This is as soon as I could reply. Just tell me if it's OK, soon.

Lynlynch of course you could are you doing a similar task? i worked on it today and I think i'm almost there but i am not sure since it gives a big matrix, so please if you find anything post it here, then we could compare :)

I have a horrible feeling that your eigenvectors are going due south.

The sooner you figure out how to post an image of your circuit, the sooner someone here can start figuring out what's on the left or right, and trying to help you.

Not many psychics here.

[hint: try searching CR4 for how to post images]

I can't figure out how to attach the circuit.

I'm thinking that some very large, well-insulated cables might work.

I am studying the operational issues that could arise when connecting a windfarm to the grid.

As far as operational issues, I think you would want to make sure that the grid does not feed the windfarm, converting the windmills into large fans. When you connect the cables, wear protective equipment. Arc blast can blow you right off your step ladder.

Where's your sync circuit?

Another caution! Be very careful when plugging the massive power strip, with it's thousands of duplex receptacles, into the output cables. It can throw a mean arc, which will surely give you a jolt.

Have a look at ATP-EMTP. It may provide you the modeling environment you are looking for. Also, refer to my blog on this package.

I am afraid I have forgotten my Quantum Mechanics and E&M 3 (electromechanics 3).

On a practicle note, please get a licensed electrician. It would be a shame if you were feeding power into the grid and fried an unsuspecting lineman who thought he had a de-energised circuit. Might eat your generators too.
