Tracking in Process Control

02/07/2011 9:20 AM

I am using ABB Symphony Bailey system. I dont quite understand the meanings of all the tracking modes. Can anybody explain to me.

1)setpoint tracking (SPTK)
2)manual tracking (MNLK)
3)Control output tracking (COTK)

Howdo these trackings affect process? If its in manual tracking meaning that the controllercannot be put in auto?

The controller can always be put back into auto. When it does go into auto:

  • SPTK - the setpoint is set to the measured value at that moment
  • MNLK - the setpoint is set to whatever the setpoint value was at that moment
  • COTK - the setpoint is set to whatever the control output value was at that moment.

Set point tracking boils down to how many times the set point was changed to control the loop, it is inefficient and can cause disruptions of the process.

Manual tracking is to track how when the loop is put into manual there are changes and of what kind.

Control output tracking, tracks the response of the output signal to the loop, it is used to detect process upsets in the system
