And there is another equation which you should look up yourself, as I am being busy with other stuff. Heheheheheheh...

That is theoretical and it is measured by earth resistance tester called Megger practically. I would refrain from posting the test setup and test procedure :)

Dear,

I have been asked to calculate ground resistance test. I've searched the internet (thoroughly) but I'm still confused.

It's a fabrication shop. Bare copper cable is installed around the shop and rods are driven at 3 different locations (connected to that bare copper of course :).

Now what I'm able to understand is that I have to perform fall of potential test ONLY which I did. Below is the summary of the test:

P=voltage rod, c=current rod, E=earth electrode under test

Rod 1

E at 6 meters from P and 12 meters from C

resistance =1.9 ohm

Rod 2

E at 6 meters from P and 12 meters from C

resistance =0.8 ohm

Rod 3

E at 6 meters from P and 12 meters from C

resistance =2.2 ohm

Is this test enough? Or are there any other tests? Because only this test doesn't make sense to me as it shows resistance of electrode, contact and surrounding earth but doesn't take into account the resistance of ground grid etc.

My question is too long. I would really appreciate your response.

thanks

Depanding upon the application, The NEC has prescribed "Make sure that system

Impedance to ground is less than 25 ohms like Houses, buildings atc specified in NEC 250.56. In facilities with sensitive equipment like industry, Telecommunication, very high buildings etc it should be 5.0 ohms or less."

There are four types of earth ground testing methods available:

Soil Resistivity (using stakes)

Fall-of-Potential (using stakes)

Selective (using 1 clamp and stakes)

Stakeless (using 2 clamps only)

depending upon the application, where u want to measure it, the appropriate method can be used.

In market, a variety of "Digital earth Ground resistance testers" are available which make the subject very easy.
