PCV & PRV

02/15/2011 1:02 AM

Hello All,

I have gone through the posts on 'PSV' & 'PRV' on CR4. Still I have some specific queries.

1. What is the functional difference between a 'PRV' and a 'PCV'?

2. I have come across multiple full forms of 'PRV'. Which one is correct?

Pressure Relief Valve or Pressure Regulating Valve?

Terminology varies.

PSV = pressure safety valve.
PRV = pressure relief valve or pressure regulating valve (I prefer PR for pressure regulator).
PCV may mean pressure control valve, which would be the same as a pressure regulator.

And there may be other interpretations.

The P&ID legend, or accompanying document, should list the abbreviations used.

Pressure Relief Valve or Pressure Regulating Valve?

Both the valves are in existence and used in industries, So if its confusing just use the full name and forget terminology.Terminology is made by human and something that is right for you may be wrong for me.

Terminology is used for convenience and has nothing to do with science, engineering and technology.this is bureaucrat's job.
