User Group Request: Model Rocketry

04/03/2007 10:00 AM

When I was a kid, one of my favorite pastimes was building and launching Estes rockets. My 9 year old son has taken a shine to it and we just built and launched our first rocket together (the Alpha - the same one I first built!).

How about a new user group for those of us who enjoy launching model rockets? Anyone else interested? It could go under hobbies, like HAM Radio.

Note from the CR4 Admin (April 3, 4:04 PM EST): Per Silas's request, we have added a Model Rocketry User Group with the Hobbies Group. All CR4 members who are interested in this topic are welcome to join.

I used to do that, first I started with Estes rockets, then I started making my own rockets that were big. They were heavy and didn't go very high with a D engine, but they looked cool. Then I started making my own rocket engines, first they were small, then I made some that were class G, H and I. After that things got more scary and more interesting, happily I still have all my fingers and toes. I haven't done anything with rockets or rocket engines in a while, but it was a fun hobby.

Yes, we just set up a model rocketry user group within hobbies. All registered users of CR4 who are interested in this topic are welcome to join.

Here in the UK it is almost impossible to get away with such an activity without having to fill out many forms have a licence and will deter all but the most determined of individuals, most groups belong to so university or other. A private person would not be able to cope with all the red tape and high costs.

I never played with rockets when I was growing up but it's something I have always been interested in so count me in.
