  • What are they made of?
  • What is their volume?
  • Are they bunded?
  • What goes in them?
  • At what temperature?
  • Etc.

API 600 series standards cover athmospheric tanks. Since the contents and size as well as the actual pressure all matter as to what standars should be used please refer to the web page below.

www.api.org A critical consideration is the condition of the tanks at the last inspection. If they have never been inspected and it is important to avoid spills I recommend an overall UT testing. Otherwise, hydro testing is usual. Either way it is a very good idea to visually check the vessels inside and out. API has very good guidelines on the frequency and the type of testing that is required.

The Engineer/Surveyor for the organisation providing burst/collapse indemnity insurance cover on the equipment is always the first port of call. The equipment may well have a record of previous inspections witnessed by that individual, which may be in a file called the General Register at the facility.

Hello,

Based on the information given, it required external inspection every 3 years and 12 years for internal inspection. refer to the API653 or the applicable API standard for the subject service.
