You might start by doing a search for "historical (1990-2010) price for motor oil in euro?"

You should know how to perform searches anyway. It frees you from people like me.

I am not providing a direct link. Finding that is up to you.

Aha trick question. The euro wasn't introduced until 1999.

First to make sure we're not barking up the wrong tree: are you talking about fuel or lubrication.

Still a trick question. Lubricating oil was not discovered in Europe til 2010.

I don't quite understand your perception that this price information you seek will result in data that can be graphed. Particularly odd is the twenty year span.

Example: Today I am in need of one quart bottle of PENNZOIL™ 30W motor oil. If I go to a large merchandise store (e.g. Walmart), the can will be priced at, say, $2.89 USD. Across the street from that store is a chain type automotive supply store (e.g. AUTOZONE). There the exact same product is priced at, say $3.69 USD. And about two miles from there is a truckstop, where the exact same product is $4.39 USD. This graphs out as a swing of 52% increase in fifteen minutes.

If you want manufacturers suggested retail price (if this even exists for engine oil I do not know), perhaps contact them for assistance.

I think you've got two options here:

1. Assume that there is a pretty high correlation between what you want and crude oil prices. Historical info on crude oil prices should be easy to find.

2. Find a magazine which keeps all its back issues online and advertises some common brand of motor oil.

EDIT

One more idea: find someone who keeps all their service bills for their car. My garage always itemises the oil filter, air filter, oil etc.

IWIK.

1967:I used Castrol R40 in my Suzuli. Can'r get it now. A vegetable oil. When burnt, smelt like model aeroplanes with ether, paraffin and Castor Oil. Or methanol and Castor Oil.

It was also used in Peugeot diffs. Mobilube P was an alternative.

I dought it costs ZAR 40/litre now! It was expensive!

I think I need a Secretary!

The facts remain. Oil was cheap, and is now very expensive. "Amsoil" still availabe?
Not here. Wm. Penn? Yes. At a phenomenal price Special order, 4 weeks delivery.

I remember the days in the 1950's, buy a Coke bottle full of petrol for tuppence!

Enough to Ease my Valve!

Today's news:

Another petrol price blow for SA
