• Free download the following guide from ESAP: ESAB_Calculating_Filler_Metal.

• Also: ESAB_Basic_Welding_Filler_Metal & ESAB_Filler_Metals_Handbook.

Calculate what you need and add 20% because it always works out in the end that you will just have enough to finish the job that way.

1 find your best welder

2 ask him to join you for breakfast, after you have cleared it with his supervisor

3 get a note book, in which you have previously created categories for each type of process you would like to explore.

4 if you are not sure of all the individual process, it may take two meetings.

5 ask if he would help you answer these questions.

6 pick up the check

PFR,

In your response, you missed one VERY critical step. Step 1A should be, "Tell the very best welder that you know that he/she is the very best welder but that word in the shop is that he/she MAY not be."

This ensures that you will get the very best performance from him/her and will likely get the check picked up by him/her.

Just trying to help...

if that isn't true, then its just games. And the manager or who ever that does that, is nothing more than a P.O.S. that does not belong in that type of position.

If you knew, or worked around any welders then you probably would have been able to appreciate the humor in my statement; because that is the way it was meant to be taken. Welders (we) are a very competitive bunch who are very proud of our skill and craftsmanship. We play to one another's sense of competition all the time. However, it's not surprising to have someone who doesn't understand that philosophy to take our banter as malicious. Therefore, for your benefit, my previous post was meant to be humorous and not to be taken seriously. But thanks for contributing your morals to the conversation!

Simple mathematics can be applied. Calculate the volume or mass of the weld material required to be filled in the joint. Double the mass of the metal, equivalent quantity of electrodes takes care of waste as well. This is generally applied for big project calculation and after project you will left with good quantity for any emergency weld there after.
