Maybe your dumb terminal is using txt-speak in a feeble attempt to communicate....

You need a decent scopeand/or serial data analyser to compare a good board and a bad one. Same as any fault finding really, maybe the circuit is marginal and there are timing/noise issues.

Maybe the hardware drive requirements of your terminal input are more than the guaranteed minimum USART output of your "stm 32...", whatever that may be. In that case, most cards will work, but not all - and another terminal could be worse or better.

A very large investigation of US military field failures in the 1950's concluded that 60% were due to design faults - nothing in my career as a design engineer convinced me that much has changed since! The most popular errors are using devices outside their design parameters - unfortunately, the prototype and pre-production batch may work OK.
