Is Laminated core compulsory?

03/01/2011 12:51 AM

Transformers are made of laminated core to prevent eddy current losses. If I use the "E" core on vibratory feeder bowl then why should I use laminated core? why not solid Iron?

Nothing to stop you, it just won't be very efficient.

Not mandatory, as far as you can afford the additional costs due to increased eddy current losses and pre-mature failure due to increased eddy current heating in the solid core.

Both of you thanks. I am facing frequent breakdowns (once in two days) as core is opening breaking best riveting/ welding. I am already using this at 25% (max.) efficiency. Hence I shall try with solid material and shall give you feedback.
