03/01/2011 11:46 AM

Hi all

Our standby generator OLYMPIAN type shows error on the control panel by displaying both yellow and red LEDs, when you reset and start the generator, it runs and stops after few seconds. We tried to change the oil and start the generator, it runs for about three hours, the same problem started there aftre. Could any one help

Greetings dmtonyole,

Can you reference the owners manual to see what kind of fault "both yellow and red LEDs" are indicating?

Olympian appears to still be in business, here is their web address: http://www.olympiangenerators.com.au/

Might want to try contacting them.

Just a thought.

Regards - KJK

I do believe the Olympian brand (at least here in Panama) is actually Caterpillar's down-market version of what was once the Perkins line. The ones imported into Panama come from diverse locations- some from Brazil, some from Peru, possibly other locations as well. SUPPOSEDLY IDENTICAL MODELS ARE NOT NECESSARILY IDENTICAL. When trouble-shooting, ordering spare parts, etc., one must pay special attention to the model number, which will have a letter designation indicating where it was manufactured.

All that having been said, one issue I have run in to with this particular brand is that the push connectors used inside the control panel for connecting the various sensors, etc. tend to vibrate loose. This is the first place to look for problems. One might want to consider removing the control panel from the generator set and mounting it on a more rigid structure that is isolated from machine vibrations...

Good evening

Today i tried to disconnect emergency stop push button, the generator run perfectly, once you connect that cable and start the generator it stops after few seconds. Tommorow i will try your suggestion to dismount the control panel , tight all the connections and mount back.

Thanks
