Nepetalactone Response

08/04/2005 11:45 AM

In shocking news today scientist admit that catnip doesn't affect many cats. American Chemical Society researchers say that it is an inherited trait and that only certain cats react to the active chemical in catnip, Nepetalactone.
That explains why my kitty isn't crazy for catnip at least.

What's next?

They don't like sweet stuff, they don't like catnip. What's next? Does "Fluffy" actually hate the tuna I feed her?

All I know is we bought some lactose free kitty milk the other day. Our cat definitely liked that. I'm usually surprised that cats and dogs can eat food made of grain (like most dry foods). I wouldn't think that a carnivore's stomach could handle it. Maybe in 300 years domesticated predators will have evolved into herbivores.
