Remote controlled humans

08/04/2005 1:55 PM

Just good fun or the start down a very scary path? Looks like there has be some advancements in galvanic vestibular stimulation, a method of ending weak DC signals through your skin that steer you like reigns on a horse. People lined up at the 2005 SIGGRAPH computer graphics conference in Los Angeles.
Other than making human robots they are talking about using it to provide biofeedback to games to simulate G forces.

Involuntary Body - STELARC

08/05/2005 10:49 AM

STELARC has done some research on this and has had his body hooked up to the internet via electrodes and had users "control" his movements. I saw one of his performances once and he hooked the electrodes up to people from the audience and made their arms move involuntarily.

If you want to check our his website he has many crazy ideas about "improving" the human body.

Spock's Brain comes to mind, although think about this from an Orwellian slant, prisoner transport, a few electros in the back of the head and there you go. Of course as the line between man and machine blurs why not just put those harmless electros in everyone's head…I mean if your not in a mob then why should you worry about it.
