Need Help for My Project

03/04/2011 12:13 AM

i am doing project on bearing cup wat i need is how much force is required for each stage (i.e forging sequence) and how much depth it will travel for each punch force please help

Project description:

bearing cup:

material :1045 steel cold drawn

final component : OD=20mm of depth 20mm and inner dia of 14mm and depth of 14mm actually this cup is done by impact extrusion and volume of the component is 4099mm3 and i calculated backward extrusion force=400KN

initial billet:OD=20mm and height 13mm here the press used is knuckle joint press of 650ton capacity

You really need to do some more work before you present on these types of forums. For example, how did you arrive at the force you calculated?

Are you executing an actual impact extrusion, or backwards? These are not the same; impact is a variation of indirect, which backwards is a method of. And why impact, which is suited towards forms which have really small thickness to diameter ratios, as low as 0.005? You appear to have a ratio of around .15.

These are just a few of many potential questions that we don't seem to have information for. Put some thought to this, refer to the proper texts, and return with focused and specific questions, instead of these general requests for how many steps and how much force. Tell how you really propose to do this, instead of mentioning 3 methods in your post (forging, backwards extrusion and impact extrusion are all noted in the post).

You didn't believe me when I said that no one is going to do your homework for you, when you posted this same question 3 days ago? Starting a new post with the same question does not make it any better.

This is a forum to discuss engineering, or to get help with specific situations or problems. It's not a place that others calculate your entire project for you because you don't feel like putting in the research required. This is clearly related to some sort of educational coursework that you are participating in. So, in essence, it appears that you are trying to cheat instead of doing the study that is required of you to learn.

You are very welcome to join the forum for the reasons I've noted above. Everyone is welcome. There is much to be learned, from an amazingly intelligent, experienced and helpful group, that are very happy to share their knowledge. But please make use of this resource appropriately. I suggest you spend an hour or two reading through various old threads in the manufacturing or mechanical sections, to get a sense of what types of questions are typically answered. You can also do a search for threads that may help.

I don't claim to speak for anyone but myself. But I don't expect there would be much opposition to the essence of what I've expressed to you.

Having said that... welcome to CR4
