BSDV and PSDV

03/08/2011 1:32 PM

I have seen in a P&ID the name BSDV 101, and the name PSDV 102, which refer to valves. Can someone explain the meaning?

I found a PSDV = Process Shut Down Valve, but I couldn't find a BSDV.

Look also for a legend on the drawing, or some other list of abbreviations in the specs.

Thanks Tornado!

There is no other reference except the ISA 5.1, which does not help.

For the BSDV, I can guess from the location and size of the valve, that it is a Blow Down Valve. In that case I think the S should be removed, leaving just BDV.

  • There should be a Valve Schedule to accompany the P&ID. Both will be listed there.
  • Another place to look is the HazOp Study report.
  • Another place to look is the Process Description document.
  • Etc., etc.
