DC Battery Earth Leakage Protection

03/10/2011 1:31 AM

Hi,

Can anyone explain how battery earth leakage protection operates. Bcoz CT is needed to provide current feed to relay but here as it is DC its not possible. However, when I read through one manual, it was given that shunt is being used in parallel to the current circuit and that path gives the feed for relay.

Is it so?

DC amperages can be computed by passing them through a shunt of known small resistance, and measuring the (small) voltage drop. It's just Ohm's Law.

Yes! It is through the shunt only. You seem to have read everything correctly. And, cross-checkiking with us. Huh!

no, its not like that. I used to get like these information from schematics through self study while I am at site and I assume that it works like that. thats all.. anyway thanks for your answer.

Cheers!

Sorry! I was just kidding! Good to know that young engineers like you do take care to "read" the schmatics & manuals. Keep it up!
