Every test done on a transformer - or for that matter, on any equipment - is only for the safe operation of the equipment and to prevent hazards. The testing procedure of a transformer is too elaborate to expalin here. Pl. do a search in this forum. There had been a wonderful thread earlier in this forum on transformer testing.

I hope you agree to disagree,

Safety test for any product fall's always in different category and are taken most seriously in all good organisation, Most of the time these test are covered with the umbrella of statutory requirements, Many time a manufacturer may produce a low performance product by choice to lower the price,But He can not do the same with safety requirements if He belongs to a design responsible company,

A kitchen fan motor catching fire can burn the whole home, But it hardly matter if it runs at 10% lower RPM,

You may contact LCIE of France to do some ATEX test and its certification. By doing so you can see whether your transformer is safe to be operated in a certain explosive zone.

Eh?

It won't be the transformer. It will be its enclosure.

hi PW,

ATEX test covers several technical aspect on transformer performance, including its enclosure. During the tests, it was measured also the heat generated by the transformer (heat run), transformer capability to withstand over-pressure situation caused by an internal arc (this test is simulation though), its schematic protection current limit, etc.

I'm pretty sure that you understand well about ATEX test . One of my project (transformer) was tested for this ATEX requirement and it passed all the test (so i got the certificate).

Regards,
