03/10/2011 9:23 AM

Dear, All

I have replace the old hdd 160GB SATA in my pc to 500 GB HDD SATA, and my old hdd 160GB SATA, i bought NexStar CX external 3.5" HDD, then i use as a external hdd using NexStar external 3.5" HDD enclosure NST-300S2-BK.

After the assemble of the unit, then i plug in the external HDD into my pc and from my computer doesn't show the full capacity.

My question if i go to my computer it is only show 1.99GB for the Local Disk: E and 43.9 GB for the local Disk : F, is there a way to show the total capacity of the HDD and also my old HDD have old file i want to open from the Nexstar CX External HDD but doesn't show. Kindly please guide on how to show the total capacity of the hard disk and how to open the old file.

Regard's

You did not mention the brand and version of your Operating System, for example: Windows 2000, Mac OSx, etc.

Each such Operating System has it's own HDD-volume capacity, so, for example Windows 98 can only "see" HDD volume up to 46 GB, while Windows 2000 or XP First Edition, can only "see" up tp 128 GB, and so on.

It is worth mentioning that some Motherboards have similar such limitations as well.

Ronron,

Since you had a SATA drive, I'm going to assume that the operating system and motherboard are of a recent vintage. If you have XP, right-click "My Computer", select "Manage", then "Disk Management". You will be able to see the status of your drives, including (I think but I'm not positive) removeable drives.

Hi, Logan

As far i know external hard disk is plug and play, but this case from my computer i can only see 1.9 GB and 43 GB.

if i right click my computer select manage then go to disk management i able to see the drives, however i couldn't open one of the partition in the external drive which were all my old file stored.

It should say more than that. On the start menu left click Computer and select Properties, then right click each drive and reply with the information about the size.
