Right Angle or Elbow Tube Insert

03/17/2011 2:19 PM

I'm looking to source a similar part to the ones in the image. I've visualized two options as there could be something out there that looks different but functions the same way. This part will be used to fasten a handle (aluminum tube) to a large bucket.

Can anyone direct me to supplier/source/industry that ideally would have something similar & existing.

Thanks

I don't have an answer, but others are going to want to know, how large is a large bucket.

Do you have a lifting weight in mind?

Approx 20lbs +/-. The user will want to be able to carry it. The bucket could be used in residential & commerical settings.

Well, at least you are not trying to invent the wheel again, just a bucket handle.

Approx. 20 lbs. Empty? Loaded? Loaded with what? Remember the proclivity of people to overload EVERYTHING, because they will make fewer trips.

This looks similar to a type of modular stair/platform railing system that uses set-screwed inserts like this. One brand (no personal connection) is Kee Clamp (not sure of spelling). The railing system is for ~1.5" tubing, which is probably larger than you want.

Thanks for the suggestion. You got the idea however I'm looking for something that is less industrial and more cost effective from a mass production stand point, which probably means it's molded plastic with an insert? Maybe something you would see on outdoor furniture/garden tools?

Check McMaster Carr for structural tubing and their fittings.

Bennyz-- I've seen injection molded parts like this used in conjunction with aluminum tubing in diameter ranges of 3/4" to 1" in consumer products like rigid frame backpacks of 20-30 years ago and lately baby strollers or bicycle trailers. The manufacturers of these medium production volume products probably don't build their own tooling to make these parts as proprietary items. While a lot of these consumer products come from overseas these days I suspect a little intelligent searching will turn up one or more US suppliers who are likely to buy parts from US sources.

I would go into retail stores catering to such consumer products as baby transport. bicycle accessories, camping and hiking equipment, small boat accessories and other recreational and sporting equiment. Look at such parts noting any identifying brand names or trademarks. Then start searching the internet.

Cheers Ed,

Thanks for your feedback, that was going to be my next plan.. If I have any luck I'll post my findings for anyone else who is looking for something similar.

Thx
