Has anyone experienced trouble with designing VFD's on a Open Delta utility?

i don't have any direct experience with it but reading this link indicates you may have to derate the rated available power by as much as 58%.

Could have a problem with third harmonic ,:it depends to load and the rest of the diagram configuration.

Depends on the VFD in question. Some cannot be used on ungrounded delta systems, open or not. You need to check with the manufacturer.

The open delta system de-ration involves the transformers not the VFD.

The use of open delta , as seen , in some cheep sevices does not dirctly affect the rating of the VFD , but ... it is a direct threat to the VFD in terms of power anomilies , spikes , surges , harmonics , etc.

My recommendation is don't but if not possible to avoid use spike protection in 2x quantitys and best is to use a "12 pulse" 3 to 6 phase transformer ahead of it.

I have done many of these units and open delta is a bad service to use for any thing
