LED Lamp for 12 DCV

04/06/2007 1:44 PM

I am trying to manufacture a led lamp for 12 DC volts, of different number of leds. So far I have done 12, 24 and 39 leds. The leds I have bougth for this lamps, apparently are not the best, I understand there are "super bright" leds, but I haven't found them in my hometown (Morelia, Mich. Mexico), any suggestions, and, actually are they so much different in brigthness?

Thanks for any comments you might have.

Congratulations to all of you people, who started and keep on "feeding" the site with your participation, happy anniversary for this CR4.

Gracias

What color of LED are you using it makes a big difference, what application you say LED lamp are these white LED's or colored? Red types are cheep and offer good value. Yes the ultra bright types do make big difference in the light out put. What is your power source? Battery/mains? The more you can provide in the way of detail the more help you will get. I am UK based but I am sure some body in the USA will come up with the goods.

I am using white leds. The lamps are a part of a lightning system for rural application. Small villages that have no chance at all, of conventional electric service.

The complete system is a 20 watt Photovoltaic module, a 24 amp-hr rechargable battery, a 5 amp controller, and the led lamps.

Thanks for your answer.

Hello Genaro,

There is a wealth of information and research around what you appear to be trying to achieve. Have a search for Bushlight (unincorporated Joint Venture with CAT (Centre for Appropriate Technology). ACRE (Australian Centre for Renewable Energy), and/or visit www.icat.org.au (Centre for Appropriate Technology then link through to Bushlight), www.gvep.org (Global Village Energy Partnership) etc etc. The Cooperative Research Centre for Desert Knowledge is an umbrella Public-Private Partnership-styled organisation in Central Australia which promotes collaboration in many relevant areas of the exploration of knowledge and experience.

There is often no need to reinvent the wheel!! Collaborate in enhancing what exists !!

Try www.digikey.com. I imagine the would ship to Mexico and they have a really good search engine so you can sort out the characteristics you want. Most of the parts have direct links to data sheets. The nice thing is that most of what is listed is in stock and it's easy to get.
