I don't know the exact words for specifying this, but in order to have a "neutral lay" (no tendency to twist or untwist under tension), the strands of each core may be twisted one direction, and the four cores in the opposite direction, so that these effects cancel each other. Another item to be specified is the allowable bending radius of the cable (no greater than the radius of the drum on which it is wound). (Alternatively, the drum radius can be specified as no less than the cable bending radius.)
