Pipe is made by surrounding a hole with some solid stuff to hold in the stuff that goes through the hole, or pipe.

Knowing what stuff is going through the hole would help.

Pipe velocity for this application can be taken 8 to 10 m/s. Assuming pressure 10 kg/cm2 (absolute) and flow 10000 cfm at NTP, you require 12" pipe.

He probably means 'expanded' - as in 'free air' - as in air tool rating.

[May be helpful if you stayed with one measurement system]

What fluid, how long is the pipe, and how much pressure drop is acceptable?

Its something more like this. play & pick with the Reynolds number find the pipe size. All conditions are there given in the MooDy diagram.

On a quick search, I didn't find a chart that went to that high a flow. One hesitates to extrapolate, but from the trends in the following table, it looks as though 5" pipe would be about right. (But only with further confirmation.)
