Jumping Arround Forums

03/30/2011 11:48 PM

Browsing arround threads and using the orthodox way: Previous in forum, Next in forum etc I find that sometimes you also jump between CR4 Sections, which is eroneous behavior in my book. Any comments? S.M.

You ain't as smart as I thought. My mistake. You mean you haven't seen the issue or you think it's insignificant to deal with. Now about your language one can't expect more from a proud Lyn. All of us have seen worse from you so no big deal there. But it would be a good idea when you haven't anything usefull or at least funny to contribute just stick to your low life and keep silent. Looking forward to your high wisdom response (lol)

Why do you presume to tell other people how to use a forum?

I don't know what "issue" you mean, and don't care.

You should heed your own advice and "when you haven't anything usefull or at least funny to contribute just stick to your low life and keep silent."

Cheers.

Don't get too excited Noudge. Sometimes you have to remember to shake the bathwater off before you jump back out into the main forum.

How come my $Cdn. 20's don't look that good? Queenie girl must have been in her early self discovery phase - table dancing for change to support her habits & kids at the 'Pure Gold' gentleman's establishments here in the colonies.

It must have worked out well for her, as she now has several places around 'Towne' to hang her laundry around wherever it pleases her Royal Highness, and to party on like it's 2011, when one of her grandkids (she's got so many, that she can't keep track of them anymore), gets hitched up in the next month or two.

My bet is on the cat - they have very sharp claws - I still have scars on me from attempting to bathe and delouse the resident 'flea farm' 'Buddy'.

Loupy.

It's not erroneous. You are clicking through the threads in the entire forum. The forum is comprised of 15 different sections, as seen on the right of your screen. As you click through the threads in the forum, each thread will will also take you to the section that the poster assigned to it.

Wow,

You made some sense of that? I had no clue what they were talking about.

But, that's not unusual either.

Not sure why it's an issue. Seems like a good thing to me.

If I go to the store for an oil filter, I want to find it in the automotive section, not mixed in with underwear and fishing tackle.

Okay, I think I got it figured out for you.

Try this. When you go to a section on the right, say, BioMech & BioMed, on the bottom is a button that says, "Go to this forum", click that. Once you are in the specific forum, when you click forward and previous, it will keep you within the specific section/forum, rather than taking you back out to, "all" threads.

Give it a try and let me know.

Just tested on this Section. (General) My browser will go back untill "Welding on an Aluminum Hydraulic Tank" thread and then goes to "Car Brake" in Automotive Section. Annoying. Try it

Re: Jumping arround forums

It works for me.

I clicked on general on the right............a list comes up of threads posted in the general section.............don't click on any threads yet, go straight to the bottom of the list and click, "go to this forum"................once I am in the general forum, I can scroll down and open a particular thread.............at the top, the previous and next in forum are specific to the, "general", forum/section.

It may be a hiccup with the browser you are using.

"Welding on an Aluminum Hydraulic Tank" thread is 3 clicks back from here. Can sombody else verify you don't go to Automotive section by clicking Previous in forum from there?

Now you're just being obstinate. The welding thread is three clicks back. You are in the general discussion forum.

And from there (Automotive) "Car Brakes" press Next in forum a few times. You'll find your self in Mechanical Engineering (if I'm right)

Now I know what you're saying. Doorman is right. Car brake was probably originally posted in general discussion, however, it should have been posted in automotive.

The moderators continually check threads and place them in the appropriate sections where they belong. Car brakes definitely qualify for placement in the automotive section. It's just a way to help keep things tidy.

A moderator has changed the location (Forum) of the thread you are asking about.

I see it too... click the Next in Forum button and end up on that thread, but it is in New Tech instead of Auto where I started.

After the thread is moved to the more appropriate discussion forum (new members often place a thread in an inappropriate forum, so these are moved to where they may receive more attention), the link to the thread will sometimes lead you to a different forum. For some reason, the original bookmark stays wherever it was placed by the OP to start with.

Not a big deal... I doubt programming time is being spent to fix this, because it really isn't broken. What... are you saying CR4 is wasting your time?

[edit] Another example: click Next in Forum at the top of this thread twice. The Software question placed in General Forum has been moved to Software Forum, but the bookmark is still in General Discussion.

Already said not a big issue. But is really annoying trying to browse a specific category and find yourself in random Sections. Can't believe nobody else spoted this. Of course 'big gurus" with long time here don't take the time to 'browse back' threads they have already read so they're excused. But after all this is not a 'chat blog' it's a teck forum with valuable information. Or is it?

Re: Jumping arround forums

Well, you could simply use this instead, and jump one thread at a time from the menu.

Of course, if a thread about Energy Barges is erroneously placed by an OP in the Biomed/Biomech Forum, you will just have to tolerate that, so I am not sure just where the rub is. It is an imperfect world, this might be the time to accept that.

"Can't believe nobody else spoted this. Of course 'big gurus" with long time here don't take the time to 'browse back' threads they have already read so they're excused." You may be are taking more than your due credit believing you are the only person to spot this. After all, I figured it out.

You can browse a specific category. Here's a link to civil engineering, (the specific section). If you notice, you can click a thread in there, and the previous and next button will keep you within that particular section. It works the same for all 15 of the sections.

If you click on the 'Subscribe' link (meaning that you want to subscribe to being notified about updates on the topic), on the top right side option area of every post that you are interested on following, you will generally receive an updated email notice regarding some new replies/comments; regardless of where it still may reside, or has been moved/relocated into another forum classification.

I receive new CR4 updates almost daily and it works for me! I will follow a subject of interest to me, until it gets TOO technical, or happens to go to the B.B.T. multi-universes. Get used to it - and enjoy - Loupy.

Oh - my mistake/(my bad) - So very sorry, I completely forgot in my total ignorance, that in order to receive email updates on selected topic posting subscriptions, that one must register oneself as a viable entity, at least as an identity (instead of AP1).

So why don't you register with CR4 since you seem to be able to put forward some very vitriolic comments towards lyn, kram and others here? Anonymity is bliss, I suppose? - just a heads up suggestion - Loupy.

P.S.(watch your head).

This has been "interesting".

I still have no idea what our anonymous entity is complaining about. Maybe I'm just too dense to comprehend the "problem" since it apparently never happens to me, or I work around it without knowing that I should complain.

If ignorance is bliss, I'm happy.
