Unexpected chemistry

04/01/2011 9:20 AM

I recently fused together some molybdenum, lithium and sodium in a crucible with some selenium under an inert atmosphere and got a white powder which, surprisingly, smelled and tasted quite good. Intrigued, I sent away a sample to an analytical lab and was shocked to find that the empirical formula for my product was given as SeMoLiNa. I am now trying to do something similar with rhodium, uranium, barium and rubidium in an attempt to make the alloy RhUBaRb, which promises to have some useful properties. I wondered whether any other chemical tinkerers had achieved similar results.

Tried it with Argon and Selenium. What came out had to be flushed down the loo.

I once did Barium, Cobalt and Nitrogen. Mmmmmm, BaCoN.

Oscar Wilde: "I wish I'd thought of that!"

I would rather like to know about the potential applications, properties, and cost effectively of SeMoLiNa.

What makes you to reach on such a conclusion? AlNiCo would have been of no use if don't have good magnetic properties.thats what make it applicable in industries.

Any way I dint requested or asked you information, I Just wished it in my post.If you feel its proprietary information you can keep it with yourself, I will be waiting for your patent.

We have a tradition in the west of posting "spoof" (i.e. nonsense) articles in the press and TV on April 1st. each year - known as "April Fool's Day." Sorry if you were unaware of this.

Many years back the BBC did a famous April 1st. documentary on the "Spaghetti Trees of Switzerland" presented by veteran broadcaster Richard Dimbleby. Unfortunately, many believed it and wrote to the BBC asking how they could get hold of these "spaghetti trees." Enough said.

A scientific journal got me once with their story of "hotheads". A small animal that lives under the ice of the South pole. It uses blood vessels located in it's head to melt it's way through the ice.

Nope, we have more fools per square foot than most places. The place seems to be a magnet for them.
