2 Butt Weld Seams Comes Closer - Effects?

What will happen if 2 butt weld seams comes closer, Please specify details based on metallurgy and strength.

Client specification says weld toe to toe min 50 mm. Actually how much proximity minimum required?

If happen, to ensure soundness of welds any of the below can follow?

a)"NDT & Hardness testing"

b) PWHT ( even thk <20mm) Or Any better way ?

Details: Carbon steel, Code: B31.3

From practical experience point of view, 2" (50 mm) or 4t whichever is larger is recommended as a clear distance between toes of two butt welds, where t is the thickness of butt weld. And that distance is enough to prevent the superimposing of Heat Affected Zones.

Wouldn't you like to have 5 cents for every short pup with superimposed HAZ that is in service within just one typical refinery?
